Since we moved in, all that I have done in Maddie's room is painting some test colors on her wall. But, we're gearing up to get it done and I think it'll be a perfect little girl room. Last weekend I painted my old headboard from childhood white and we bought her a mattress. We made the bed up in her room with a quilt that used to be Aunt Jessie's and moved out her little toddler bed. It definitely has me motivated to paint a couple other little pieces, make a trip to Ikea for a larger dress and get the walls and molding painted (pale pink and white respectively). I bought a couple little accessories for the room at Home Goods and I think Maddie will be really excited when I pull them out as finishing touches. We want to change the carpet out as well to something more neutral, but that will probably have to wait until spring when we've had time to budget and save for changing out the carpet in all the bedrooms and the loft in the master bedroom (am I whetting your appetite to see pictures of other rooms, too?)
The girls were having a tea party picnic with stuffed animals while I took these pictures. Poor Maddie would set up everything just so and then Avonlea would mess it up.
Anyone have a brand of slipcover they've really liked? The chair under that blanket was my MorMor and Papa's (so it is many decades old) and I just love the shape and find that it's a good solid chair. The upholstery has held up well, but it's dated and worn. I'd love to have it recovered, but I just don't think it's in the budget right now (especially since I suspect that I could get a new chair for not much more than the reupholstering would cost). So I'm on the search for a slipcover that stays put and is washable.
I'm brainstorming affordable window treatments...I have some long white panels with eyelet that might do the trick, but I think some sort of valance also would help tie it together.
I love the big closets in the bedrooms. We plan to paint the doors white as well as the molding.
If you couldn't make it out in the earlier pictures, those are horses that make up the border. While it's not the right room for Maddie (who likes, but has no great love, for horses), it's clear that this room was decorated with much love! The girl who lived here before rode horses and had carried the theme throughout.

Look at all that space, and those windows! And I think your color ideas will certainly brighten up the room - she's a lucky girl.
I forgot how much I love Jessie's old quilt--so bright and cheerful! I can already envision just how cute her room will be. Maddie will love it! If only boys' rooms could be so colorful and cute...
